Greetings, Loyal Reader!
I am happy to report that I have finally completed my detailed line edit of the Hero Wanted manuscript.
What comes next? Well, now I must type in all the edits I made by hand on the hard copy — then go back through all 396 pages again for the actual copyediting — spelling, grammar, punctuation, fixing any typos I added while editing, making sure all references to directions and units of time add up, that no one’s eye color changed without explanation, that items characters are holding match available hands for holding things, and other little details like that. When all of that is done, the next step will be to deliver the text to my fabulous typesetter/book designer, so she can design and set and make it look like a book.
Meanwhile, there is the process of designing the book cover. I have already unveiled the Jason Cosmo logo. I am also working with an awesome artist who will paint the cover illustration. I’ve reviewed his initial concept sketches, which were amazing, and hope to approve the final concept soon. I’ll have more to share about the art in the near future.
For now, we’re still on track for an August 2009 release of Hero Wanted by Trove Books. When these production tasks are finally complete, I’ll have to kick my efforts to let people know about the book into high gear! In the meantime, thank you again, Loyal Reader, for your interest and support!
Best regards,
Dan McGirt
Isn’t it crazy how something like eye color can easily slip? I’ve been called on that a few times. Now I keep notes. The problem is, I lose my notes and can’t find where exactly I mention the person’s eye color in the story.
I’m so excited that it will be coming out. August isn’t that far away.
I haven’t had the eye color problem. I’m mainly worried about keeping up with numbers of opponents in crowded fight scenes. Also keeping track of travel times & distances. I also worked out a silly calendar & phases of the moon for Arden, so where the moon is mentioned, I want to be sure it tracks with my fanciful astronomy.
Any chance of a early ebook release of Hero Wanted?
Can’t wait to read it. 🙂

Greg — great question, thanks! I am 100% committed to releasing Hero Wanted as an ebook. Most of my energy right now is focused on getting the print edition ready, because that has more moving parts. But once I have the final text set and the cover designed, there is no reason I can think of not to go ahead with the ebook, even ahead of the (planned) August 2009 release of the print edition. I am investigating various options, including Smashwords, and certainly welcome any suggestions from Loyal Readers who read ebooks. -Dan
Dan, thanks for the great books.
I’ll be happy to read them in any format. 🙂
